2007 Armand Rousseau Chambertin Burgundy Red ST94+ 750 ml 4 $1,499.00
Good full red-ruby. More reserved on the nose than the Beze, with terrific sappy verve to its aromas of dark fruits, violet, crushed stone, iron and camphor. Juicy, tightly wound and very intense on first pour, but opened spectacularly in the glass to show outstanding creamy depth without any loss of energy. Today the wine\'s saline earth tones and minerality have the upper hand over its fruit. There\'s less easy sweetness here than the Clos de Beze is displaying, but the slow ripening of the vintage is apparent, and the finishing flavors go on and on. It would be a rare (and expensive) treat to try these two wines side by side in 2020 or so.
2001 Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin Burgundy Red BH91-94 750 ml 1 $425.00
Stunningly complex and exuberantly spicy red pinot fruit aromas cut with plenty of Gevrey earth and a lovely freshness precede silky, dense, discreetly muscular flavors that offer fantastic length. This too has that seductive quality of a velvety sappiness on the layered finish and completely coats the mouth. Knockout quality here.

1999 Bertheau Chambolle Musigny Les Charmes Burgundy Red 750 ml 1 $195.00
2006 Domaine Chantal Lescure 1er Cru "Les Vallerots" Burgundy Red 750 ml 6 $69.00
2002 Domaine Louis Remy Chambertin Grand Cru Burgundy Red 750 ml 2 $265.00
2001 DRC Richebourg Burgundy Red BH94 750 ml 1 $1,450.00
While this is showing some signs of aromatic development, it's clear that this classically styled Richebourg has a long way to go before it's ready for prime time. This still requires some coaxing before it reveals wonderfully complex aromas of a simply incredible array of black fruits, earth, spice, crushed herbs and notes of hoisin and clove that lead to focused and medium-bodied flavors that are supple, rich and impressively powerful, all wrapped in a superbly well-detailed and focused if overtly austere finish. I particularly like the almost pungent minerality and this particular vintage of DRC Riche is evolving quite slowly and it's not clear that even my suggested initial drinking window of 2019+ will see this at its best.
